Parking Information
Delivering and collecting of children safely is a major priority to the school governors and we ask that parents, where possible, park away from the school. This is particularly important at the start and end of the school day when children may need to cross the roads. We also request that you park with consideration for our neighbours and the crossing patrol officer.
Punctuality & Attendance
Absence from school
It is essential for us to be informed of any form of absence including illness, hospital appointments, etc. This should be done by telephone on the first day of absence but must be supported by a letter on return to school. Please avoid arranging holidays in term time as this can be very disruptive to your child’s learning and could seriously affect their progress.
Lateness and Poor attendance
All children who arrive late must be accompanied by an adult to the school office and signed in. Any child arriving after 09.05am will be recorded as late. Please help your child to be punctual – it is important that children develop good routines as persistent lateness can affect a child’s education. When children are frequently late or where attendance is a concern, parents will be contacted by Mrs Hutley, Attendance Officer, in order to work in partnership to improve the situation. In some cases, it may be deemed necessary to refer the case to the Attendance Improvement Team.
Authorised / unauthorised absences
At Lumley Junior School, we aim for zero unauthorised absence and always expect an explanation for absences. Parents must request permission from the Head teacher for any time off during school time. If possible, please arrange medical appointments outside of school times. Holidays during term time can only be authorized in exceptional circumstances. A leave of absence request form is available from the school office.
Emergencies and Bad Weather
In the event of an emergency or school closure, (for example due to bad weather), parents will be informed via the Weduc communication app and our texting service T2P.
We have provided further information regarding our approach to School Holidays during term time.
Complaints
Whilst we try our best to address all situations carefully and correctly, should you feel the need to make a complaint you can find out how through our Complaints Policy which you can find in the School Policies section of our website.
Medication in School
School-held Medicines
We retain school-held non-prescription medicines for the relief of pain or insect bites. We can administer immediate relief and will not usually be administered for more than a day. All parents will be informed by the most appropriate communication method at the end of the day. On observing any adverse side effects these will be reported to parents in a timely manner.
By consenting and signing, parents state that these medicines or treatments have been given previously with no ill effects. School will also need to ascertain in person or by telephone when the last dose was given at home before administering in order to avoid over-dosage.
Prescriptive Medicines
School can administer medicines to children which have been prescribed by a registered doctor and dispensed by the pharmacy in its original container showing the child’s name.
Medical Conditions
If your child has a medical condition, we would ask that you make an appointment to discuss it, so that a Health Care Plan can be set up for your child.
