Welcome to Lumley Primary Federation’s nursery school
We are delighted to announce the expansion of our Nursery provision. From September 2025, we will be able to offer 15 and 30 hour places to eligible 2, 3 and 4 year olds during term-time.
Our beautiful purpose-built nursery unit is situated within the grounds of Lumley Infant and Nursery School. With wonderful indoor and outdoor spaces to learn and play and our very own Forest School, our youngest learners thrive in all aspects of their learning and development.
Our Early Years department was graded Outstanding by Ofsted in May 2024, they commented on the “exceptional early years where children study a highly ambitious curriculum.”
Our nursery and pre-school children are very much part of Lumley Infant and Nursery school and have access to the main school facilities, such as physical education sessions in the main hall and participating in whole school celebrations. The transition to Reception is seamless as the staff, environment and routines are so familiar.
Applications
Children are eligible to join our Nursery as soon as they turn 2. We have a number of 15 and 30-hour places available each academic year. Children on our waiting list are offered a place, allocated in date of birth order.

An application form (NA1 form) is attached. This can be returned by email to
p2108.admin@durhamlearning.net or in person to the Infant School Office.
Pupils are taught by highly qualified and experienced teachers. We follow the Early Years curriculum with an emphasis on developing pupils’ basic skills and knowledge to ensure they are prepared for Reception.
Children attend during term-time (excluding bank holidays and teacher training days) on one of the four options below:
15-hour places:
- Mornings only – Mon-Fri 8.30am-11.30am
- Afternoons only – Mon-Fri 12.15pm-3.15pm
- 21/2 days—Mon-Wed am or Wed pm-Fri
30-hour places:
- Mon-Fri 9.00am-3.00pm
(Option to pay extra to start between 8.30am-9.00am when attending full-days)
Open Event
In January each year, we hold an open event to allow parents and children to view the Nursery unit and meet some of the staff. Please email lumley.infants@durhamlearning.net if you would like to be informed when the date has been agreed.
